Funds are available to help support outstanding graduate program applicants. Fellowships, teaching assistantships and research assistantships carry an attractive stipend plus resident tuition status and tuition scholarships for students who are appointed at least one-quarter time. These awards are further enhanced by a full tuition waiver. The criteria for receiving financial support are completely merit-based, and include such things as GPA, adequate progress towards the degree, suitable work experience, TA certification score, and performance in previous statistics courses. Financial need is not a criterion used to make support decisions.

Current graduate students will automatically receive an application in their departmental mailboxes in early spring for the upcoming summer session and academic year.

Required Registration for Financial Support

Students who are receiving financial support from the department are expected to register for a minimum course load each fall and spring semester of their appointment.

Half-time Graduate Assistants

• M.S. students should take 9 hours minimum in courses suitable for their program of study.
• Pre-Comp PhD students (i.e. those who have passed the Ph.D. Candidacy Review but have not yet taken the Ph.D. Comps) should take 7 hours minimum in courses suitable for their program of study.
• Post-Comp Ph.D. students should take at least 4 hours of seminars and/or 22S:299. (Recall that Ph.D. students are required to take at least 18 s.h. of 22S:299.)

Quarter-time Graduate Assistants

• M.S. students should take 6 hours minimum in courses suitable for their program of study.
• Ph.D. students should take 4 hours minimum in courses suitable for their program of study.

Other

• Paper Graders who have quarter-time appointments should take a minimum of 6 s.h. in courses suitable for their program of study. Graders with less than quarter-time appointments must be registered, but have no minimum s.h. requirement.
• During a semester where a student is preparing for an impending M.S. or Ph.D. Final (Comprehensive) Exam (e.g., the fall semester when the comps are in January), a 4-s.h. minimum is applied.
