"StatWeave: Flexible Software for Literate Programming in Statistics"

2:45 Refreshments and 3:00 Presentation of the Craig and Reitz Awards in 241 Schaeffer Hall
3:30 Talk in 140 Schaeffer Hall

Many statisticians have discovered the benefits of the R function Sweave() and its relatives, which make it easy to incorporate R code and output in a LaTeX document. Besides the convenience of not having to manually paste computer output into your paper, Sweave guarantees that the displayed output is always the result of the displayed code; thus it is a reliable way to documentyour work. Sweave has been extended to OpenOffice-format documents in the odfWeave package for R, and to LaTeX documents containing SAS and/or R code by the SASweave scripts. StatWeave unifies and extends these: it supports several statistical languages (possibly within the same document), and both file formats. It is written in Java (making it portable across platforms), and it is possible to add new file formats and new languages simply by writing and configuring additional Java classes. StatWeave is still under development, but a reasonably functional beta version is now available. The talk will include a discussion of StatWeave's design, and some examples.

All talks are free and open to the public.
