Permanent Employment (annual salary)
Twenty-three Iowa students sought permanent actuarial employment this past year. Nine were graduate students and fourteen were undergraduate students. Not all of these students completed the salary survey. Employers of these new graduates often gave relocation allowances and bonuses for passing exams. Most of these employers also paid an additional signing bonus ranging from $3,000 to $12,000. Most of these students will be earning more after July, when the May exam results are announced. It should also be noted that several students had secured permanent employment after their summer internships or removed their names from consideration after accepting an offer; therefore, they limited the number of interviews needed. Summer 2009 Employment / Internships (hourly wage)
Seven graduate students and three undergraduate students were able to secure an internship by the end of May. Not all students completed the salary survey.
Employers of interns often assist with relocation expenses. In addition, many subsidize housing or provide housing, often in nearby college dormitories or local apartments.
Employers occasionally offered an incentive monetary bonus or a raise in wage to students who pass a May exam.
